HL Deb 22 October 2001 vol 627 cc112-3WA
Earl Russell

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Further to Annex 8 of the Annual Report on the Social Fund, what evidence they possess on the subsequent history of those refused Social Fund budgeting loans because of outstanding debt; and [HL774]

Further to Annex 10 of the Annual Report on the Social Fund, what information they possess on the subsequent experience of those refused crisis loans from the Social Fund because of inability to repay. [HL775]

Baroness Hollis of Heigham

Information is not available on the subsequent history of people whose applications for budgeting loans or crisis loans are declined because of outstanding debt or inability to repay. Crisis loans are available to the vast majority of people in an emergency or disaster where there is no other means of preventing a serious risk to the health of the applicant or a member of their family. In 2000–01 just 0.4 per cent of crisis loan applications were refused because of inability to repay.
