To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions if he will give updated quarterly figures on new claims for incapacity benefit and the total case load. [18539]

Incapacity benefit caseload figures are contained in the Incapacity Benefit Quarterly Summary Statistics (May 2001), a copy of which is in the Library. The Incapacity Benefit Quarterly Summary Statistics (August 2001) will be published on 13 December 2001.

Note: New claims to Incapacity Benefit may not always result in an award of benefit.
