§ Alun MichaelIt is too early to make any statement about Government proposals to introduce legislation for a proposed New Forest National Park Authority. We are awaiting the Countryside Agency's recommendation on the designation of a New Forest National Park and expect this early in 2002. Should the Agency submit a designation order to my right hon. Friend (the Secretary of State) for confirmation, it will be accompanied by their advice on administrative arrangements.
The Agency has recently completed a three-month public consultation period on the administrative arrangements for a proposed New Forest National Park, including the need for special guidance for a National Park Authority, the membership of the Authority and its relationship with the Verderers. They are currently considering the responses received.
