§ Baroness Scotland of AsthalIn its judgment in the case brought by Mr Bernard Connolly against the European Commission, the European Court of Justice stressed that fundamental rights form an integral part of the general principles of law, whose observance the Court ensures. The Court highlighted the special significance of the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms in that regard and made direct reference to the case law of the European Court of Human Rights.
