What is their assessment of the percentage of United Kingdom web-based retailers that are in breach of the provisions of the Data Protection Act 1998. [HL1658]

The Information Commissioner is responsible for administering and enforcing the Data Protection Act 1998 and she carries out these duties independently of the Government. I understand that the commissioner is planning to undertake a survey of UK-based websites during the coming year with a view to assessing the level of compliance with the Act's requirements.
