HC Deb 26 March 2001 vol 365 c442W
Mr. Rowe

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what steps he has taken to ensure that the EU delegation to the UN Commission on Human Rights will raise the current human rights situation in China with special reference to religious freedom and torture. [154907]

Mr. Battle

We are pressing the EU Presidency and our EU partners to ensure that relevant EU statements at the UN Commission on Human Rights reflect our concerns about the human rights situation in China, including the use of torture and respect for religious freedoms.

I spelt out the UK's concerns on human rights in China in my address at the UN Commission on Human Rights on 22 March.
