To ask the Secretary of State for Health what plans he has to ban the use of(a) mercury amalgam and (b) other toxic dental materials by the NHS. [3871]

There are no plans to ban the use of dental amalgam or other dental materials currently used in the National Health Service. All dental materials must be safe and fit for their purpose and must meet the requirements of the Medical Devices Regulations.
