To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many intensive care beds there are in England in(a) the NHS and (b) the private sector. [2984]

The latest figures for 15 January 2001 are given in the table. The number of available adult intensive care and high dependency beds in England are published in the bi-annual publication "Available adult intensive care and high dependency provision, England", copies of which are available in the Library.
