To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what has been the change in benefits for children in(a) single parent and (b) two-parent families since 1997. [145990]

A lone parent family on Income Support, with two children aged under 11, are nearly £25 a week better off as a result of measures announced this Parliament. A two-parent family with the same aged children are nearly £30 a week better off.
