To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department when the Association of Chief Police Officers' guidelines on the police use of firearms will be published. [147943]

I understand that the Association of Chief Police Officers' manual on the police use of firearms has been reviewed and revised to take full account of the introduction of the Human Rights Act 1998 and to help spread consistency and good practice.

With the exception of the specific sections on police tactics, training and equipment where publication might compromise police operations, the manual will be available to the public via the internet on www.acpo.police.uk with effect from 29 January 2001. I will also shortly place a copy of this version in the Library.
