§ Mr. BoatengThe number of prisoners held two to a cell designed for one and those that are in accommodation units where prisoners exceed the uncrowded capacity at the end of November 2000 are listed in the table. These figures are provisional and subject to validation.
The Prison Service does not collect centrally the number of prisoners held three to a cell designed for two. Prisons provide data on the total overcrowding level and on the numbers held two to a cell designed for one, known as 'doubling'. Total overcrowding includes those held three to a cell for two and those overcrowded in dormitories and larger cells.
