To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what estimate he has made of the number of(a) men and (b) women from the United Kingdom who are detained in prisons overseas. [151014]

At the end of January 2001 we were aware of 2,827 British men and 423 British women detained in prisons overseas.
