HC Deb 06 February 2001 vol 362 cc488-9W
Mr. Grieve

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what training the judiciary in Scotland was given between 1 May 1997 and 1 July 1999. [145890]

Mrs. Liddell

[holding answer 16 January 2001]: Responsibility for training the judiciary in Scotland lies with the independent Judicial Studies Committee which was funded by the Scottish Office during the period in question. Between May 1997 and 1 July 1999 the Committee ran training events in connection with new legislation on criminal justice in Scotland and on changes in legislation affecting children's cases. Guidance was also issued to all members of the judiciary on a number of other pieces of legislation which came into effect during this period. Training in the use of information technology was also a prominent feature.
