To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what recent discussions he has held with the Government of Turkey regarding human rights, specifically with regard to the Kurdish people. [148548]

My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry has had no recent discussions with the Government of Turkey on this subject. However, my right hon. Friend the Foreign Secretary and my hon. Friend the Minister for Europe regularly raise human rights issues in routine bilateral contacts with the Turkish government.
