To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if the Government will make an Order in Council to legalise homosexual acts in the five Caribbean territories where such acts remain illegal. [148842]

Mr. Battle

An Order in Council to de-criminalise consensual homosexual acts between adults in private in Anguilla, the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, Montserrat and the Turks and Caicos Islands, was made by Her Majesty at the Privy Council meeting on the 13 December 2000 and came into force on 1 January 2001.
