HL Deb 11 October 2000 vol 617 c40WA
Lord Marlesford

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they are satisfied with the standard of security screening of passengers and their carry-on luggage at Naples airport; and, if not, whether they will make representations to the Italian authorities. [HL4067]

Lord Macdonald of Tradeston

Under international law, as set out in Annex 17 to the Chicago Convention, a host state is responsible for the security of all civil aircraft leaving that state. Thus the responsibility for security screening of passengers and their carry on baggage at Naples airport is a matter for the Italian authorities.
