HC Deb 30 November 2000 vol 357 cc782-3W
Mr. Coleman

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions if he will list for each local authority in England(a) the amount of housing HRA subsidy payable in 2000–01, (i) in total and (ii) per dwelling and (b) the projected figures for 2001–02. [140998]

Mr. Mullin

I have placed a table in the Library showing the latest figures for Housing Revenue Account subsidy payable in 2000–01. This is based on local authority estimates as reported in their advance subsidy claims. The figures will, therefore, be subject to change following receipt of audited outturn figures in due course. Figures for 2001–02 are not yet available.

Mr. Coleman

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions how much was the estimated overall revenue subsidy including Housing Benefit in each of the last 10 financial years in England(a) per council dwelling and (b) per private rented dwelling where the tenant was in receipt of Housing Benefit. [141005]

Mr. Mullin

The figures requested are shown in the table. The Housing Revenue Account Subsidy figures include both the housing and rent rebate elements. The figures for the private rented sector (which includes registered social landlords) show the average rent allowance subsidy per claimant.

1990–91 922 1,294
1991–92 964 1,635

1998–99 1,026 2,811
1999–2000 (Provisional) 1,085 2,875

Note

Rent allowance subsidy has been calculated on the assumption that central Government meet 95 per cent. of the amount received by the tenant. Weekly averages have been converted to annual amounts, but individual claimants will not necessarily receive benefit for a whole year
