HC Deb 27 November 2000 vol 357 c424W
Mr. Cohen

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what part of the radio spectrum is used by his Department; and what estimate he has made of its commercial value. [139144]

Dr. Moonie

The Ministry of Defence uses various portions across the entire radio spectrum in accordance with the allocations made by the World Radio Conference, to which the UK is a signatory.

The Radiocommunications Agency of the Department of Trade and Industry is responsible for managing the frequency spectrum and levies charges for allocations to all users, including the MOD. Currently, the MOD is charged a standard commercial rate by the Radiocommunications Agency, and pays £22.8 million for the spectrum it is allocated.
