§ Mr. Charles ClarkeTotal provision for the police will be £8.5 billion in 2001–02, £.9.0 billion in 2002–03 and £9.3 billion in 2003–04. In real terms, these are annul increases of 7.4 per cent. 3.5 per cent. and 0.6 per cent. respectively. Spending will rise by almost £1.6 billion by 2003–04 against provision for this year. That is a rise of 11.8 per cent. in real terms.
