The Director of the Office for National Statistics (ONS) has been asked to reply to your recent question on levels of capital investment since 1988. I am replying in the Director's absence.Due to the introduction of a new European System of Accounts (ESA 95) the production of data on capital investment by industry has been postponed. The publication of these data is planned for the end of this year. The only information available is on investment in private (personal sector) dwellings and business investment in manufacturing industry (from 1994 only), which is given below (in £ million).
