HC Deb 27 July 2000 vol 354 cc790-1W
23. Mr. Swayne

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what estimate he has made of the productive capacity of the dairy industry over the next year. [131286]

Ms Quin

The UK's milk production capacity is constrained by the milk quota system. The UK's current allocation of quota is 14.2 billion litres. Although current milk production is running at a little below the seasonal profile, at this stage of the year there is no reason to believe that the UK production will not be close to its quota allocation, as has been the case in previous years.
