To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how much money has been spent to date on the Countryside Stewardship Scheme in England, broken down by(a) county and (b) region. [132301]

Mr. Morley

The table shows the total expenditure on the Countryside Stewardship Scheme by county and Government Office for the period 1996–97 to date. This covers the period during which MAFF has administered the Scheme following its transfer from the Countryside Commission. A regional breakdown of expenditure prior to 1996 is not available.
