§ Ms Estelle MorrisInformation on the numbers of full-time equivalent qualified teachers1 employed within maintained primary and secondary schools in the Shrewsbury and Atcham parliamentary constituency is shown in the following table.
There was a growth of 6,900 full-time equivalent regular teachers2 in service in the maintained sector between January 1998 and January 2000.

The 'directed' hours per week of part-time teachers are converted to full-time equivalent teacher numbers by dividing by 32.5. This conversion factor is derived by dividing 1,265 (directed hours per year) by 195 (working days per year) and multiplying by 5 (working days per week).
