Letter from Tim Holt to Mr. Chris Ruane, dated 21 February 2000: As Director of the Office for National Statistics (ONS), I have been asked to reply to your recent parliamentary question on underweight babies by health authority for each of the past ten years. The number of live births under 2,500 grams and their percentage of all live births with a stated birthweight in each Regional Office and health Authority for 1990–1998 are shown in the attached table. Also provided are the number of live and stillbirths under 2,500 grams and their percentage of all births with stated birthweight in each Regional Office and Health Authority for 1990–1998. Data for 1989 are not available based on the latest health authority boundaries as at 1st April 1999. I will arrange for a copy of this letter to be placed in the House of Commons library.
