To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many stoma nurses working in the NHS are sponsored by dispensing appliance contractors; and if he will make a statement on the Government's policy in respect of sponsored clinical personnel. [110929]

Sponsorship of Stoma nurses is by local arrangement.

The Department expects all staff to adhere to high standards of business conduct, as set out in existing guidelines published in January 1993—Standards of business conduct for National Health Service staff (HSG(93)5).

Consultation has recently taken place on updated guidance, which we expect to be available shortly, which will specifically address stoma care nurses.
