To ask the Secretary of State for Health, pursuant to his answer of 3 April 2000,Official Report, column 354W, on cleaning staff, if he will give details of (a) the total number of support staff in the NHS and (b) the total cost to the NHS of contract hotel services and laundry and cleaning equipment in the last financial year; and if he will make a statement. Expenditure on in-house cleaning services is not collected centrally.
