§ Yvette CooperThe National Radiological Protection Board was asked to set up an independent expert group on mobile phones. The group, chaired by Sir William Stewart FRS FRSE, has been considering the possible health effects from the use of mobile phones, base stations and transmitters and conducting a comprehensive assessment of existing research. The group is currently finalising its report and publication is expected in May.

§ Yvette CooperFollowing our response to the report of the House of Commons Science and Technology Committee on the scientific advisory system and mobile phones and health, discussions were held with the industry about funding a collaborative United Kingdom based research programme. Detailed research plans are currently being developed and will take into account the recommendations of the Independent Expert Group on Mobile Phones expected to be published in May.
