HC Deb 03 April 2000 vol 347 c349W
Mr.Chaytor

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what research he has commissioned on the health implications of the Sellafield MOX plant; and if he will make a statement. [115530]

Yvette Cooper

[holding answer 27 March 2000]: No specific study into the possible effects of the MOX plant at Sellafield on the health of the general public has been commissioned. However, the independent advisory Committee on Medical Aspects of Radiation in the Environment (COMARE) has been asked to examine the geographical distribution of childhood cancer in Great Britain, and as part of this study the committee will investigate the incidence of these diseases around all British nuclear installations. This study will include the Sellafield site.
