Further to the Written Answer by Baroness Symons of Vernham Dean on 21 March (WA 20), which European laws would be contravened if the Ministry of Defence were directed to buy British produce.[HL1712]

The relevant legislation is Article 28 of the EC Treaty, which prohibits quantitative restrictions on imports and all measures having equivalent effect between member states.
