§ Mr. WillsThe number of civil servants employed by the Department for Education and Employment at its headquarters office in Darlington as at 1 April 1999 was 498. Staffing projections for future years are not available. However, when the Secretary of State spoke to staff in Darlington and Runcorn, in 1997, he indicated, that for the lifetime of this Parliament, there would be a continuing need for both sites.
