HC Deb 08 November 1999 vol 337 c394W
Mr. Woolas

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions if he will report on the progress of the Docklands Light Railway. [97901]

Mr. Hill

I have placed in the Library of the House the Docklands Light Railway Ltd.'s Annual Report and accounts for 1998–99.

The Railway continues to make excellent progress. The extension under the River Thames to Lewisham is set to open in November, in time for the Millennium and some two months ahead of schedule. Passenger numbers increased from 23 million to 30 million during the year. DLR Ltd. is currently owned by the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions, and will transfer to Transport for London on 3 July 2000.
