To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on the financial support provided by his Department to fox control associations. [78334]

Mr. Macdonald

Financial support, amounting to 50 per cent. of approved expenditure, is provided to recognised Fox Destruction Clubs under a scheme to prevent the predation of lambs. Total support has averaged around £70,000 per annum in recent years.

From 1 July 1999, this will be a matter for the Scottish Parliament.
