asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, following the Budget provision which allows an employer to pay a tax-free mileage allowance of 12p to cyclists, they will introduce such an allowance for Members of both Houses. [HL1545]

Lord Falconer of Thoroton

Members of both Houses are entitled to claim the bicycle allowance, which is tax-free. The current rate is 6.4 pence per mile.
