HC Deb 19 March 1999 vol 327 c615W
31. Helen Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs when he next expects to meet President Arafat to discuss the implementation of the Wye agreement; and if he will make a statement. [74938]

Mr. Fatchett

President Arafat visited London on 11 March at the personal invitation of the Prime Minister. In addition to talks with my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister, he attended a dinner that I hosted at Lancaster House. This visit provided us with a valuable opportunity to explore ways that Europe can help get Wye back on track.

Together with our EU partners, we have deplored the failure to complete implementation of the Wye River Memorandum within the declared deadline. We continue to urge both sides to implement their obligations in full and without new conditions.
