§ Mr. Whittingdale
To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how much extra revenue will be raised in excise duty on petroleum due to changes made since 1 May 1997 in 1997–98 and each of the following four years. 859W
§ Dawn Primarolo
HM Customs and Excise estimate the extra revenue raised in excise duty on petrol due to the changes made since 1 May 1997 to be:
£ million Financial year Extra revenue 1997–98 350 1998–99 740 1999–2000 600 2000–01 820 2001–02 1,000
The figures have been calculated by comparing estimated revenue streams under the current Government's duty commitments (as shown in table C.1 of the 1998 FSBR and table IB.2 of the 1999 ESBR/FSBR) with an estimate of what revenue streams would have been under the previous Government's 5 per cent. escalator.
