Mr. Wyatt

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport how many meetings he has had with the Welsh Rugby Union to discuss the pricing of tickets for the Rugby World Cup. [75854]

Mr. Banks

Neither my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State nor I have had any meetings with the Welsh Rugby Union to discuss the pricing of tickets for the Rugby World Cup. However, in response to recent questions in the House, I have made written representations to Keith Rowlands, Chief Executive of Rugby World Cup 1999, supporting their pricing policy for the pool matches which is aimed at broadening public access, whilst expressing concern about the cost of tickets for the semi-final and final tickets. My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Wales is in the lead for the Government on matters relating to this competition.
