HC Deb 04 March 1999 vol 326 c893W
Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales when he expects measures to be put in place to alleviate traffic queues at the Woodbank Junction (English Border); and if he will make a statement. [74188]

Mr. Hain

This is a cross border scheme largely (almost entirely) situated in Cheshire. It is intended to relieve severe traffic congestion which occurs at the traffic signal controlled junction, particularly during the morning and evening peaks and at weekends. The scheme is the responsibility of the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions (DETR); and it will be for them to carry out the route study proposed in the English roads review. DETR will be making an announcement on the timing of this, and other studies, in due course.
