§ Ms HewittThe Treasury does not provide direct support to credit unions, but is responsible for their legislative framework. The Treasury is currently consulting on proposals to remove some of the restrictions on their powers, and established a task force to consider how banks and building societies could assist credit unions. I also await the report of a policy action team which is looking at other ways to help their development.
