HC Deb 02 March 1999 vol 326 c658W
Mr. Cann

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will list those purposes for which his Department and its executive agencies require a birth certificate to be furnished by(a) employees, (b) contractors, (c) those applying for (i) employment and (ii) contracts and (d) other persons. [73471]

Mr. Spellar

The Ministry of Defence may request birth certificates from prospective employees, both service and civilian, and individuals undertaking work for the Department, to establish proof of identity. However, other official documents, such as a full 10 year passport, may be furnished as proof of identity and are normally acceptable.
