HC Deb 30 June 1999 vol 334 c178W
9. Dr. Harris

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland for what reasons her Department is proposing to discontinue funding students from Northern Ireland attending adult residential colleges in Great Britain. [87723]

Mr. McFall

The Government will invest an additional £47.5 million over the next three years in Lifelong Learning in Northern Ireland. This will provide some 10,000 additional student places in further and higher education, together with continued support for access courses to higher education provided by local colleges. To make this possible, reductions in some programmes, including the very few adult education bursaries in Great Britain, were inevitable.
