To ask the Parliamentary Secretary, Lord Chancellor's Department how many senior draftsmen have been employed on consolidation of legislation in respect of(a) the Service Discipline Acts and (b) other Acts in each year since 1991; and if he will make a statement. [85891]

The numbers of senior Parliamentary Counsel seconded to the Law Commission employed on consolidation of legislation since 1991 are as follows:

To ask the Parliamentary Secretary, Lord Chancellor's Department how many Parliamentary Counsel are currently seconded to the Law Commission for purposes of consolidation bill drafting in connection with(a) the Army, Navy and Air Force Discipline Acts, (b) work on the next Armed Forces Bill and (c) other consolidation measures; and if he will make a statement. None of the Parliamentary Counsel currently seconded to the Law Commission was seconded specifically to work on consolidation; none is at present working on consolidation of legislation relating to the Armed Forces; and one is at present assigned to a consolidation of criminal appeals legislation.

Mr. Key

To ask the Parliamentary Secretary, Lord Chancellor's Department when Law Commission draftsmen commenced work on the consolidation of the Army, Air Force and Naval Discipline Acts; and when they will complete the consolidation. [85889]

Mr. Vaz

Work on this consolidation began at the Law Commission in November 1996. The consolidation is substantially complete, and the timetable for the remaining work will depend on the availability of Parliamentary time.
