As director of the Office for National Statistics (ONS), I have been asked to reply to your recent parliamentary question on the per capita gross national product of the Republic of Ireland.The latest estimates available from Eurostat (the Statistical Office of the European Community) are for 1998. These show the Republic of Ireland with a per capita gross domestic product of 87.5 per cent of the EU average. These estimates are subject to revision.
