To ask the Secretary of State for Defence (1), pursuant to his answer of 17 March 1999,Official Report, column 685, on the Nimrod MRA4 programme, what was the nature of the technical difficulties experienced by BAe; and what extra costs will be placed on his Department because of the slippage in the in-service date from April 2003 to early 2005; [82528]

(2) if he will make a statement on the procurement process for the maritime patrol aircraft requirement; and what were the in-service dates proposed by each of the bidders. [82529]
