§ Mr. Cohen
To ask the Prime Minister (1) what discussions he proposes to have about the continued occupation of Tibet with the Chinese President Jiang Zemin, when he visits the United Kingdom in the autumn; 
(2) what representations he proposes to make to the Chinese President, Jiang Zemin, this autumn about the detention of Gedhun Choekyi Nyima, recognised by the Dalai Lama as the 11 Panchen Lama of Tibet. 
§ The Prime Minister
[holding answer 23 July 1999]: We are very much looking forward to the first ever State Visit by a President of the People's Republic of China this Autumn. During President Jiang's visit we expect to discuss a full range of bilateral, regional and international issues.
