HC Deb 26 July 1999 vol 336 c46W
Mr. Mackinlay

To ask the Chairman of the Information Committee what monitoring is undertaken of the frequency with which hon. Members and staff are unable to access the PDVN network; with what results; and if he will make a statement. [92801]

Mr. Allan

The Parliamentary Data and Video Network (PDVN) is monitored on an operational basis with real time information. This indicates to Parliamentary Communications Directorate staff when an individual piece of infrastructure equipment is not responding to the network. This is a dynamic process and is actioned for fault reporting purposes.

There is no individual monitoring of access problems by individuals, but trends are established and pursued. It is currently not possible to report on the availability of individual services on the PDVN. Tools to provide this information will be implemented in the coming months.

Regrettably, there have recently been some serious problems with the network infrastructure which have prevented access to PDVN users. A project to replace the overloaded components of the network was initiated some time ago and will be implemented during the forthcoming summer recess.
