HC Deb 26 July 1999 vol 336 c74W
18. Mr. Edwards

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport what plans he has to encourage more state schools to play cricket. [91356]

Mr. Banks

As well as the various initiatives aimed at encouraging sport in schools through Sport England's Active Schools programme, the English and Wales Cricket Board have an number of initiatives aimed specifically at encouraging schools to play cricket. These include the Wrigley Schools Cricket Tournament, a Kwik Cricket based competition for state primary schools and the production of a new Development Game for secondary schools designed to bridge the gap between Kwik and hardball cricket.
