To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will review the cost effectiveness of GP prescribing. [89091]

Mr. Denham

The Government continue to encourage general practitioners to prescribe cost effectively. A number of measures are in place to help them to achieve this, for example the employment of prescribing advisers by health authorities. Recent developments such as the National Institute for Clinical Excellence will also help to ensure cost effective prescribing.
