HC Deb 05 July 1999 vol 334 c384W
Mr. Dismore

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport what plans he has to discourage the use of acid paper for the printing of books, newspapers and paper records; and if he will make a statement. [89110]

Mr. Alan Howarth

The National Preservation Office at the British Library (in conjunction with the Library Association and the Society of Archivists) has for several years been instrumental in promoting actively the use of acid free paper, particularly to the UK publishing community. Resolutions for the use of permanent paper were adopted by the International Publishers Association in 1989, and by UNESCO IN 1997.
