Mr. Jenkin

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions which EU Council of Ministers meetings Ministers in his Department plan to attend during the German presidency; and if he will make a statement about each of the matters that will be discussed. [67619]

Mr. Meale

A DETR Minister normally attends meetings of the Environment Council and the Transport Council, and, depending on the business, may attend the Labour and Social Affairs Council. The scheduled dates for these Councils during the German presidency from January to June 1999 are:

Environment Council

  • 11–12 March, 24–25 June

Transport Council

  • 29 March, 17–18 June

Labour and Social Affairs

  • 9 March, 25 May, 22 June (poss.).

The agendas for these meetings have not yet been settled.
