To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what steps he is taking to safeguard jobs in the engineering industry; and if he will make a statement. [65204]

The slowdown in the world economy will lead to slower growth in the United Kingdom.

We believe that the best way of safeguarding jobs in the long term in the engineering industry is to create a stable and strong monetary and fiscal regime.
